Wendy McClure, Ward 1, North Wales Council
Wendy is currently a Ward 1 North Wales Council member and a 25-year resident in North Wales along with her husband Douglas and their two grown children Sara and Kyle. She has worked for 28 years as a Senior Staff Claims Analyst, Allstate Insurance Company. Wendy previously served on the Council for 6 years, including 2 years as vice president.
Wendy has a long history of community involvement supporting most particularly the North Penn Volunteer Fire Company and the North Wales Area Library whom she views as of primary importance to North Wales residents. Her proudest achievement was the North Wales Fire Relief Fund, a community effort to support the families who lost their homes to fire on West Montgomery Ave. Wendy also served 10 years on the North Wales Civil Service Commission as VP.
Wendy is currently on the North Wales Shade Tree Commission and previously on the Park and Recreation Board when many trees were planted in the Borough and in the parks. She chaired the effort to plant a Dawn Redwood tree in Weingartner Park honoring those who died and those who risked their lives in 9/11. She co-chaired Community Day events organizing especially the car show and dog show. Wendy and Doug have sung the National Anthem at the start of the Tex Mex WVWA 5K race for many years. They also received the Wissahickon Valley Watershed Association ‘Green Ribbon Trail Award’ for work as Trail Stewards and for all their volunteering.
Her Goals are to:
- Expand and improve the business district downtown.
- Encourage, as a volunteer trail steward of the Wissahickon Valley Watershed Assoc., composting, recycling, rain-barrels, planting of native plants and water conservation.
- Create recycling area for healthy tree chips for sharing in cooperation with Upper Gwynedd.
